Sneak Preview-- Sarah and Rob

Only because I couldn't resist... It's Memorial Day and Madison, CT is packed like you wouldn't believe. Sarah and Rob's wedding was a dream and this trip is wonderfully unreal. The New England states are just like everyone describes... quaint, charming and dream-like, just like Sarah and Rob's wedding day.

Ok, that's all for now... Officially on Vacation. More to come when I return :)

So long, farewell....

I'm a teensy bit stressed. We are leaving tonight for a few weeks and I haven't the slightest what to pack. I know I need the basics– shampoo, toothbrush, jammies, make-up– but what about my clothes? And I know I need my gear and that's the easy part. It's the clothes... I've never been there and I have no clue what to wear. Maybe I should start by looking at the weather report but that seems all too simple.

Packing for a trip must be equivalent to prepping for a photo shoot (.... from my clients perspective). What to wear... accessories... shoes, jackets. You only get one chance and you better make it a good one. No running home and grabing that adorable tank cause the sun just came out. Ugh. I wish Josh would pack for me... then again that might not be the best idea I've ever had ;)

We are headed out on a 1/2 work 1/2 vacation trip and I couldn't be more ready (minus the packing) or more excited! Tonight we fly to NYC and drive up the coast to the mysterious Madison, CT. I can't wait to photograph Sarah and Rob's wedding on the coast! YAY I love love and I love water. From there we're going to road trip up the coast reaching as far north as Rockport, MT only to turn back around and finish out the trip in NYC! Believe it or not I've never been the the East Coast so I'm super excited. Big Smiles.

All that to say I will not be answering emails until I return in June. Thanks in advance for being patient with me... And don't you worry. I'll be sure to post about it when I return, oooof cooooursssse.

Here's the map of our travels. I just got even more excited!

It has come to my attention (by my dear husband who thought my last blog post was hysterical but only because he knows me personally) if you don't know me personally or my (sometimes) very dry sense of humor you might not know I'm kidding. Blame it on miscommunication. Blame it on tone. Blame it on me. Blame it on misread copy. Either way, I didn't mean to offend and I'm very sorry if I did.

I promise I love Mr. Man-at-the-dog-park-who-gave-me-a-dirty-look-and-asked-if-my-dog-was-wearing -a-Coach-collar. Just to clarify I think dirty looks are hysterical! Really, they crack me up. Beth, my BFF from high school is the queen of dirty looks and every time I get one I burst out laughing. Oh, and I don't care what type of collar your dog wears- he/she could be sporting a twine rope. It's no big thang.

All to say, I'm not mad nor was I venting... just simple story telling :) and maybe a little bit elaborating... but that's storytelling, right? Thanks for understanding!

Mr. Man: The Makeover

Dear Man-at-the-dog-park-who-gave-me-a-dirty-look-and-asked-if-my-dog-was-wearing -a-Coach-collar,

What's wrong with a brand name? I don't understand what the dirty look was for and I'd like you to clarify. I can understand a roll of the eyes because it's pink. I agree, pink is girly. Pink is prissy. The thing is it's cute and I'm a girl and I like cute. No dirty looks please.

Furthermore, I happen to think branding and consistency are key in running a business. Why do you think of all people, Mr. organic-dressed-man-in-Portland, knows about Coach? I'll tell you why. It's simple. It's branding.

Sincerely, The-redheaded-girl-with-the-little-dog-in-the-pink-Coach-collar.

Dear everyone who appreciates Coach,
Here's a trick for everyone who is running their own business, selling things on, or wants to do so in the future: If you want someone to remember you or your company pick one thing and repeat. See what Coach did. The C's upside down and backwards and all over the place. For heavens sake it's a letter in the alphabet and now we associate it with designer purses and shoes.

Here's the thing, I want you to remember Soul Mates Photography. I've chosen something that I love and would love to be remembered by and Whitney is helping me carry this throughout my business. I'm squeezing it into every corner possible. In the past I've called this The Makeover. And honestly, it's true. My company is getting a makeover and I couldn't be more excited. So, Mr. Man-at-the-dog-park-who-gave-me-a-dirty-look-and-asked-if-my-dog-was-wearing -a-Coach-collar, I hope you and a whole bunch of other people appreciate this makeover. And more importantly I hope you remember it.

Without further ado...

EEEE! So cute! Oh, and because you can't feel the paper I'll describe. Close your eyes and imagine the touch of velvet meets swim suite material. Soft plastic meets micro suede. That's the paper and it's glorious! Trust me.

René and Eric | Engaged!

While I was thinking of what to say about René and Eric it came to my attention that Eric was one of the first people I met when I moved to Portland. I've known Eric longer than I've known René and I've known them as single people and now as a couple. And to be honest it's so stinkin cool!

We were sitting at Bumblekiss when René ordered the hummus plate. She leans in with a sly smile and whispers, "I went on a date the other night." My face and my mouth said the same thing, "What?! Who? Tell me." I'm not very patient when it comes to these things. She proceeded to tell me it was Eric. At first I was shocked as one is when they find out they know both the people... and then I paused and smiled because I knew they fit.

Some would describe René and Eric as calm, comfortable, patient, loving, caring– and they are, to each other. We enjoyed hiking around Mt. Tabor one early Sunday morning.... and I'm so excited for their wedding! I can't wait! They just fit together. It's just that simple.
How cute are they?

I think they were leaving room for the Holy Spirit! Growing up in the church I've heard this a ton ... this just cracks me UP!

gorgeous Mt. Tabor view.

Cause René is hysterical. These guys were racing down the pavement. I was afraid for their face if and when they fell.

I know this a busy image but I love it! It's so serious and so fashionesq.

Caught 'em smiling at each other.

My new favorite pose.

And then we headed over to Vincente's for some drinks... at 11:45 am :)

At Peace

I feel at peace. I feel spoiled. Even though this hotel room is slightly ghetto and not in the fabulous way, I feel spoiled. The room, however typical of all hotel rooms is got one thing going for it (besides the hunky man I get to share it with). It's got a view. The sounds of the waves crashing on the shore, the seagulls flying around, the bright sun streaming in through the window. It's just plain gorgeous and I'm so thankful, blessed and spoiled I get to spend a few days here. Even though I feel stressed with my time line, overwhelmed with the amount of work I've taken on and even though at the moment I don't have internet connection I feel peace.

I didn't even bring my camera to these few days away... I brought my laptop my suitcase and my work list of to-dos. Unfortunately and fortunately this gorgeous view and warm sunny weather has distracted me greatly and I'm at peace about it. Fortunately and Unfortunately Josh's conference ends today and we will be returning home from Lincoln City tomorrow. I miss Persay. I've got galleries to upload and my own list of personal to-dos. One thing I did learn is that often the things that throw you from your own personal schedule end up being the most needed. Thank God for unplanned events. Amen? Yes, Amen.

This is not the Oregon coast, but I wanted to include at least one picture... so here you go. My tribute to So Cal. Kisses to the warm beaches I miss so dearly.

Alycia and James | Engaged!

He cracks a joke and she giggles. This is Alycia and James in a nutshell. They don't take life too seriously, they know what they want and they go after it. They are hard workers laughing all the way. It's refreshing! Together, for them life seems carefree.

One of the reasons I love photographing engagement sessions is because I get the inside scoop... or at least that's how I feel when I leave. Aside from finding out how they met, what the spend their free time doing and random facts about Nike shoe collections and how they got their two pugs only one year apart.... Aside from all that I learn so much more than someone can learn from listening. I see how Alycia and James interact– how they care for each other, how James sneaks a quick pinch, how Alycia thinks he's the funniest man in the world. I learn those things. Those things that you can only know from being on the inside scoop.

Alycia and James– Thanks for inviting me to see your side of the story. Thanks for inviting me to learn the inside scoop! I had such a blast with you both and can't wait till your wedding!

The pugs are so, SO adorable.

Don't you just want to take them home with you? I do!

I told you James was the comic!

Alycia, you are smokin gorgeous!

Is James waving at the camera? Yes, he is!

If I were them this would be going nice and big up on the wall.

And that's a wrap!

No Barfing, YAY!

This time was better than the last, and I'm a proud puppy mommy. Doggie Dash was a huge success and Persay kept her food down! No barfing, YAY! I mentioned in a older post she was so excited last year she barfed. Anyway, as my good friend Winnie said, Persay is the queen of the Doggie Dash. She would walk the side lines saying hi to everyone she passed. What a socialite. We had a great time and will be there next year!

This lady had the nerve to bring a CAT! Are you kidding... I was afraid for that cat's life.

Persay and her little friends ready to race.

This little guy wanted to say hi to me!

Natio Parkway was shut down for over 1000 dogs that ran the race!

HUGE thanks to Josh for taking most of the pictures. He's such a sweetie.

From the left. Winnie and Mya. Me and Persay. Megan and Mandy.... and Beethoven!

You should check it out next year if you missed it!
