Giving Back

I've just added the following "Giving Back" info to both my wedding and portrait sites. I thought I would share it on my blog too! I will post the portrait event date on here as soon as I establish it :)

Each year Soul Mates Photography chooses a Charity to raise funds for through portraiture. This year there will be a special portrait event held to promote FACES Foundation and their trip to Peru. FACES Foundation is a non profit organization providing surgical treatment to children with facial deformities in low income countries. You can learn more about FACES on their website, www.facesfoundation.org.

Melissa has been invited to join FACES Foundation on their annual trip to Peru in December to document cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries. Photography is important because it builds awareness and displays the need for the children's surgeries. Photography also helps to educate the public on cleft lip and cleft palate deformities and helps promote the need for FACES Foundation.

Soul Mates Photography will be holding a portrait event in the summer to raise funds for Melissa's trip with FACES. Please contact Melissa directly for more information about this one time event at soulmatesphoto@gmail.com. Stay tuned for the event date.

You can donate to FACES directly by visiting the "How To Give" portion of the website. Please be sure to notify you would like your donation to go towards the expense for Soul Mates Photography.

Shelby and Brandon | Married!

What a fun day! Last Sunday, Shelby and Brandon became man and wife. I truly believe this day was completely them. A few years ago they met at McMenamins' Kennedy School and have been together ever since. They decided to keep the tradition running and booked their wedding day at McMenamins' Edgefield this past Sunday afternoon. It was a truly unique day. They did something during their ceremony I had never seen done before- romance was written all over it. During their ceremony rather than lighting a unity candle they choose to write love letters to each other. They are saving them in a box accompanied by wine and wine flutes for their 5 year wedding anniversary. It's going to be so special for them to approach their 5th wedding anniversary and look forward to those words written as newlyweds. It's almost like a wedding time capsule for the soul- I wish I had done something like this on my wedding day. I loved it.

Brandon and Shelby, I had a wonderful time at your wedding! Thank you for inviting me to document your special day-- it was a blast! I wish you the best and I can't wait to hear how your 5 year anniversary goes! I'm just dying to know what was written in those letters to one another.

March 22, 2009 will be forever sealed with love for Shelby and Brandon.

I just love this one! I believe some of the girls are helping Shelby with her shoes.

The girls...

I love this one of Shelby. It's just so bridal magazine.

Deep breath. Here comes the 1st look.

a tear on her cheek.

A favorite! Also very fashion-esque.

This just cracks me up.

I adore the attitude in this image. I just love it because it's so them.

The whole party.

I think it's safe to say they had fun!

The End! Happy Friday!

E is for Ezrah

Introducing little Ezrah!

I love newborns because there's always an element of surprise. When I'm photographing a newborn I'm always on location in my clients' homes-- I love seeing clients' homes. Home is a place of peace and relaxation, a place where memories are made. The neat thing about "home" is that it's unique for everyone. Everyone has different chairs, walls, baby rooms, decor etc. And you know what- I love it! It keeps sessions interesting and it really helps incorporate a client's style into their portraits.

I was so excited to meet Ezrah and see Todd and Jessie again. Ezrah is Lauren's cousin which means they're about 6 months apart. The babies' mamas are sisters. I love that they were able to have kids so close together. I know their kids are going to spend hours with each other as they grow up laughing together, playing together, taking bubble baths together and carving pumpkins together. I could only hope for something as cool as what these growing families have!

Without further adieu.... Here's Ezrah!

Lovin' life.

I had a serious case of indecisiveness during the editing process. I can't decide which I like better- B and W or color.

I just love this one. It's so tender.

I really enjoy using elements to help people see how small their baby is. Check out Todd's hand in relation to Ezrah's body.

sleepy baby

This one makes me chuckle.

Jessie has an adorable "mom" necklace. I wonder where she got it.

A favorite! This is the couples' dresser.

Stunning in B and W.

Grandma painted Ezrah's nursery- lucky little guy! I think I'll have her stop on over to decorate when I have my 1st! She also did a great job on Lauren's nursery.

The Family. :)

I love newborns. They make me happy. Todd and Jessie- Thanks so much for welcoming me into your home and treating me like an old friend. I really hope to spend more time with you both! You guys were fabulous and I'm sure Ezrah slept the entire afternoon :)
